Yes, but what will I wear?

With the Inauguration a little over two weeks away, it’s time to start getting serious about what to wear to the big day. The actual inauguration is held outdoors and, according to those who’ve been there before, you’re likely to catch a deathly cold.  Most will be bundled up under multiple layers so fashion will be secondary.

What everyone really cares about is the Black Tie Gala Inaugural Ball held at the National Air and Space Museum and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. The President will be there, if only for a few seconds. I hear it’s frequented by many political honchos. If that’s the case, I’m not leaving until I see a prominent news person inebriated.

By now, I’m sure most of you have heard of the Dress Registry. It allows women (and men I suppose) to register their gowns for different Ball’s and Gala’s to ensure they avoid the embarrassment of seeing someone else wearing the same frock. Oh, the horror. To date, there are over just under 50 different events listed on the site, the majority of them taking place at the same time.

WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) asked the worlds top designers to submit sketches of the gowns they would offer the Obama clan. Here you can view a slide show of the top designs for Michelle, Sasha and Malia.

Not to be outdone, MWD (take a guess) asked designers for sketches for the soon-to-be President. You can view them here.

However, according to several sources, Obama will be sporting a simple tux made by Chicago men’s wear firm Hart Schaffner Marx.
